Dog Grooming Services: Three Tiered Categories
Dog grooming packages are typically divided into levels depending on the dog's coat type, condition, behavior, and owner preferences. Here's a clear breakdown of the most common categories offered by professional groomers:
1. Basic Groom (Bath & Tidy / Maintenance Groom)
Perfect for dogs that need regular upkeep between full grooms or for short-coated breeds that don’t require haircut styling.
Full brush-out and de-shedding (if applicable)
Warm hydro-massage bath with premium shampoo & conditioner
Blow-dry (hand fluff-dry or cage-free high-velocity drying)
Everything in the Basic package, plus:
Full-body haircut/clipping according to breed standard or owner preference (e.g., puppy cut, teddy bear trim, lamb cut, etc.)
Styling of head, face, ears, and tail (rounded face, visor, etc.)
Thinning shears or scissoring for a natural, blended look
De-matting of minor mats/tangles (extra fee if severe)
Teeth brushing (optional add-on in many salons)
Reserved for specific breeds or heavily matted dogs that require intensive, skilled work.
Everything in the Intermediate package, plus one or more of the following specialized techniques:
Hand-stripping (terriers & some sporting breeds – preserves harsh coat texture)
Hand-scissoring only (no clippers – poodles, Bichons, show dogs)
Breed-specific show grooming (perfect pattern, precise angles, Asian Fusion/Freestyle creative styling)
Heavy de-matting or pelted coat removal (shave-down under sedation risk discussion)
Skin treatments (medicated baths, oatmeal soaks, flea treatments)
Full dental scaling (with anesthesia-free option in some salons)
Specialty coloring or feather extensions (safe pet dyes, creative grooming)
Multiple-session makeover for extremely neglected coats
